Egypt has welcomed the European Commission’s announcement on 14 April 2025 of a new multi-year financial programme worth €1.6 billion aimed at supporting Palestinian recovery efforts. The initiative underscores the European Union’s commitment to empowering the Palestinian Authority and addressing the legitimate needs of the Palestinian people in both the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

In a statement issued by the Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Cairo praised the EU’s position as a reflection of its understanding of the urgent need to support the Palestinian people during this critical phase of their national struggle. Egypt reiterated that such support is essential to achieving a just and lasting resolution to the Palestinian cause, based on the two-state solution.

Egypt also commended the €82 million allocated to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), highlighting the indispensable role of the agency in delivering essential services and humanitarian assistance to Palestinian refugees. The statement reaffirmed that UNRWA’s mission remains irreplaceable amid growing regional humanitarian challenges.

Furthermore, Egypt expressed its hope that the European Union will continue its support for the Palestinian Authority and play a constructive role in the upcoming Early Recovery and Reconstruction Conference for Gaza, which Egypt will host in cooperation with the United Nations and the Palestinian government.

This financial commitment by the EU is seen as a critical step toward alleviating humanitarian suffering and strengthening the institutional foundations of the Palestinian state.
