The Co-chairs of the International Follow-up Committee on Libya (IFCL) Economic Working Group (EU, Egypt, US), with UNSMIL, stressed the importance that the Libyan House of Representatives (HoR) to convene on its scheduled date (March 8) to vote of confidence to the new government headed by Abdelhamid Al Dbaiba and to discuss many urgent issues facing Libya.
In a statement, the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) announced Thursday evening that they said that the electricity situation in Libya could worsen by the early summer of 2021 if there is no swift allocation of funding to undertake urgent repairs.
According to the statement, the Economic Working Group co-chairs pointed out multiple other areas where the allocation of funding is urgent.
They called on the Libyan leaders to allocated funding for the fight against COVID-19 in addition to the payment of salaries of public employees, and financing to keep the National Oil Corporation operational.
They also urged all relevant Libyan decision-makers to cooperate in good faith to ensure that the necessary spending decisions can be taken urgently and effectively at this critical moment.
On Thursday, Dbaiba revealed that he had submitted the proposed list of his cabinet members to the Presidency of the Libyan House of Representatives.
In a statement, the government’s media office added that this comes within the framework of Dbaiba’s commitment to the road map specified in the Libyan Political Dialogue Forum (LPDF), and to the procedures set for the delivery of the cabinet line-up before holding the vote of confidence session next Monday.
