Egypt's Assistant Foreign Minister for Multilateral Affairs and International Security, Amb. Amr Aljowaily, held a series of consultations on multilateral affairs and international security.

The discussions, organized by the Egyptian Embassy in London, included meetings with directors from the UK Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) covering UN affairs, international organizations, defense and international security, technology and analysis, as well as cybersecurity and information threats.

During the consultations, Aljowaily highlighted key multilateral negotiations and discussions set to take place this year, particularly within the United Nations (UN), which is marking its 80th anniversary. Topics included institutional and administrative reforms of the UN, as well as ongoing negotiations on expanding and reforming the UN Security Council.

The talks also addressed global peace efforts, including preparations for the Berlin Ministerial Meeting on advancing peacekeeping operations and the ongoing review of the UN peacebuilding architecture, in which Egypt plays a key facilitation role in New York.

Aljowaily emphasized Egypt’s leadership in peace efforts at both the regional and continental levels. In the Arab world, this includes efforts related to Gaza, while on the African level, Egypt hosts the African Union’s Center for Post-Conflict Reconstruction and Development.

On international security, the discussions covered both traditional and emerging security issues. This included nuclear disarmament and arms control ahead of the third Preparatory Committee meeting for the 2026 Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference, scheduled for April in New York.

Moreover, talks addressed digital and emerging technologies, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity, in preparation for the final report of the relevant UN working groups, which will be presented at the upcoming UN General Assembly session.

The consultations further underscored the strong cooperation between Egypt and the UK on multilateral and security issues, reflecting their shared commitment to addressing global challenges through dialogue and collaboration.
