Egypt’s Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation, Alaa Farouk, said the government is working to reduce poultry prices by increasing production and market supply, amid concerns over recent price fluctuations.
Speaking to Extra News, Farouk said an agreement has been reached with the Poultry Producers Union to inject larger quantities of poultry and eggs into the market in the coming period, a move aimed at stabilizing prices and pushing them lower in the days ahead.
The minister dismissed reports circulating on social media about a sharp rise in chick prices, describing the information as inaccurate. He stressed the need to maintain a fair balance between production costs and selling prices to protect both producers and consumers.
Farouk explained that seasonal factors, including higher heating costs during winter and the exit of some non-upgraded open farms from production, can temporarily affect prices. However, he noted that current poultry prices remain lower than those recorded last year.
He added that the state intervenes whenever unjustified price increases occur, through coordination between the Ministries of Agriculture and Supply, along with other relevant authorities and the Poultry Producers Union, to safeguard small farmers and ensure affordable prices for citizens.
The minister also highlighted that investments in Egypt’s poultry sector exceed EGP 100 billion, with production reaching around 1.6 billion broiler chickens and more than 16 billion eggs annually, reinforcing the sector’s role in supporting food security and price stability.
