Egypt and Switzerland marked the 90th anniversary of the friendship between the two countries at the Giza Plateau. The celebration included the unveiling of a 900 square meter fresco created by Swiss-based artist Saype, symbolizing the friendship between both nations.
The event was organized by the Swiss embassy in Egypt, under the auspices of the Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, represented by the Egyptian Tourism Authority and sponsored by Nestlé in partnership with Orascom Pyramids Entertainment.
The celebration was attended by Switzerland Ambassador in Cairo Yvonne Baumann, CEO of the Egyptian Tourism Authority Amr El-Kady, representatives of the Egyptian government and the diplomatic community, as well as members of the Egyptian cultural scene and Swiss businesses in Egypt.
In her address, Ambassador Baumann emphasized the deep-rooted friendship between the two nations, quoting Article 1 of the treaty that declares perpetual peace and an unbreakable friendship between Switzerland and Egypt.
Meanwhile, El-Kady highlighted the significance of art in connecting people worldwide and described the event as a celebration of ancient and contemporary arts coming together as an expression of a continuous artistic journey of humanity over thousands of years.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation between Egypt and Switzerland, particularly in the field of tourism.
In June 1934, Switzerland and Egypt signed a Treaty of Friendship, expressing their desire to establish diplomatic relations.
Today, the relationship between the people of Egypt and Switzerland involves a vibrant and fruitful exchange of culture, arts, and science.
