Egypt and Sudan are taking significant steps toward deepening their long-standing partnership in the transport sector, as senior officials from both countries met in Cairo to discuss expanded cooperation across multiple transportation domains.
In a meeting held today, Kamel Al-Wazir, Egypt’s Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, met with Saif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani, Sudan’s Minister of Infrastructure and Transport. The talks were attended by senior officials from both sides and came within the framework of the robust and historic ties that bind the two neighboring nations.
Al-Wazir emphasized the strategic depth and strength of Egyptian–Sudanese relations, noting that bilateral cooperation in transport has witnessed remarkable progress at all levels. He reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting Sudan’s development and infrastructure efforts, including the participation of Egyptian companies in major national projects underway across the country.
On his part, Sudanese Minister Al-Tijani congratulated Al-Wazir on the successful sixth edition of the TransMEA Intelligent Transport, Logistics, and Industry Exhibition and Conference, which recently concluded with significant local, regional, and international participation. He hailed the event as a major platform for advancing dialogue and innovation in the transport and logistics sectors.
A major focus of the discussions centered on technical cooperation in roads and bridges, particularly the maintenance and rehabilitation of key bridges in Sudan. The ministers reviewed the outcomes of a technical committee formed by Egypt at Sudan’s request to assess and support maintenance work on several Sudanese bridges, including Shambat, Al-Halfaya, and Al-Mak Nimir.
The Sudanese minister expressed gratitude for Egypt’s swift response and substantial technical assistance, noting that the committee’s assessments will help determine the necessary upgrades to restore efficiency and ensure safe operation of these vital structures.
The meeting concluded with both sides reaffirming their commitment to expanding cooperation in transport, seen as a cornerstone for strengthening economic integration and facilitating the movement of people and goods between the two countries.
As Egypt continues to bolster its regional partnerships, its engagement with Sudan signals a shared vision for stability, growth, and interconnected development across the Nile Valley.
