Egypt on Thursday began a COVID-19 vaccination campaign for the elderly and those with chronic diseases.

This came after finalizing the vaccination of medical staff at 40 quarantine hospitals for free.

On the sidelines of the vaccination campaign, Prime Minister (PM) Moustafa Madbouly confirmed that the state is adopting a scientific way regarding the vaccines file.

He explained that the state initially tested vaccines, then contracted with companies based on the tests' outcomes, and finally received and distributed them according to existing and announced priorities.

On Saturday, Egypt’s Ministry of Health officially launched a COVID-19-dedicated vaccine website, http://mohpegypt.com, announcing that the registration of citizens wishing to receive the vaccine will begin in about 10 hours.

In a statement, the ministry said that Egyptians aged above 40 will be able to register for the anti-Coronavirus vaccine online starting from Sunday.

The registration to get the vaccine is done either online or at certain health facilities. Afterward, citizens get informed about the time and place where they will receive the vaccine.

The Ministry of Health put certain criteria during the registration process on the website, asking citizens to provide 3 medical reports to determine their health status, and then the website automatically determines priority regarding receiving the vaccine. Then, a text message will be sent to citizens on when and where they could receive the vaccine.

The eligible citizens have to take two shots of the vaccine (21 days apart) at a cost of LE 200 (US$ 12.73) per shot.
