Egypt snatched a 1-0 victory over African Lions Tanzania in the first of it’s two pre-African Cup of Nations friendlies. The AFCON hosts will now face off against Guinea on Sunday at 9:00 pm local time.

The only goal of the match came when team captain Ahmed El-Mohammady headed a beautiful cross from Ahmed Ayman in the 64th minute.

The match was surprisingly equal in it’s first stages as neither team had the upper hand. Egypt was about to conceive a goal in the 16th minute after a miscommunication between Dunga and Mahmoud Alaa almost caused a 'disaster' in the defense line.

Ahmed Aly wasted a header after a precise corner by Abdullah El-Said.

Abdallah El-Said later came back to shoot a strong shot in the 48th minute of the second half but the keeper deflected it into a corner.

Ahmed Ayman later crossed the winning goal for his nation, which Mohammady beautifully headed it into the goal of the lions, giving Egypt the lead.

Tanzania wasted the most vital chance in the match, when Genesh saved a strong shot, ending the match in favour of the Pharaohs.

Egypt’s win gave them a much needed momentum boost ahead of Sunday’s match, but the team will need to dig in a lot deeper in order to find the correct tactics that will hopefully lead them to African glory.
