Egypt’s Foreign Minister Badr Abdelatty, affirmed that Cairo “will spare no effort” in defending the Palestinian cause across all international forums, during a meeting on Friday with Farsin Aghabekian Shahin, the Foreign Minister of the State of Palestine.
The talks were held on the sidelines of the 10th Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean, amid escalating regional tensions and ongoing diplomatic efforts to halt the deterioration of humanitarian conditions in the Gaza Strip.
According to Foreign Ministry spokesperson Tamim Khalaf, Abdelatty opened the meeting by underscoring the historic ties that bind Egypt and Palestine. He reiterated Cairo’s unwavering position in support of the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, foremost among them the establishment of an independent Palestinian state along the June 4, 1967 borders with East Jerusalem as its capital.
The minister noted that this stance had been reaffirmed during a phone call held Thursday with Hussein Al-Sheikh, Vice President of the State of Palestine.
Abdelatty stressed Egypt’s continued intensive efforts to curb the severe humanitarian decline in Gaza. He underlined Egypt’s categorical rejection of any attempts to forcibly displace Palestinians, whether from Gaza or the West Bank, and reiterated the need to uphold and consolidate the ceasefire to enable a serious response to the scale of the humanitarian catastrophe facing the enclave’s population.
He further emphasized Egypt’s rejection of any unilateral measures aimed at altering the demographic or geographic reality in Gaza. Any future arrangements, he said, must form part of a comprehensive political process that respects the unity and territorial integrity of Palestinian lands while safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people.
The spokesperson added that Abdelatty highlighted the importance of implementing UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on Gaza, including the establishment of an International Stabilization Force tasked with maintaining the ceasefire and ensuring the steady flow of humanitarian aid. These measures, he noted, reflect the outcomes of the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit and align with elements of the U.S. peace plan.
The minister also pointed to Egypt’s preparations to host the upcoming International Conference on Early Recovery and Reconstruction of Gaza, describing it as a crucial step toward supporting Palestinian resilience and rebuilding war-torn areas.
On her part, Palestinian Foreign Minister Aghabekian Shahin expressed deep appreciation for Egypt’s “pivotal and unwavering” role in supporting the Palestinian people and their just cause.
She praised Cairo’s efforts to secure ceasefire arrangements and deliver vital humanitarian assistance, stressing that continued coordination with Egypt remains essential for strengthening Palestinian resilience and advancing the aspiration for freedom and self-determination.
