Egyptian athlete Ahmed Elgendy has achieved a historic feat by securing a gold medal in the modern pentathlon, placing his name among Egypt's all-time Olympic champions.

This victory brings Elgendy's personal Olympic tally to two golds and one silver, following his silver medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics and now a gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The last Egyptian gold in Tokyo 2020 was won by Feryal Abdelaziz in karate, while Ahmed Elgendy's gold marks the first for an Egyptian man since Karam Gaber's wrestling gold in Athens 2004.
