Egypt, Korea Discuss Joint Cooperation ahead of 2024 Korea-Africa Summit

On March 31st, Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Egypt, Kim Yonghyon met with Minister of International Cooperation, Dr. Rania Al-Mashat to discuss ways to enhance joint cooperation between Korea and Egypt.

Ambassador Kim noted that Korean companies operating in Egypt are benefiting from the recent positive development in Egypt’s macro-economic situation and expressed his appreciation to Minister Al-Mashat for her leadership and role in concluding a series of agreements with international partners including IMF, EU and World Bank. 

He added that improved stability of the Egyptian economy will pave the way for more Korean companies to invest in Egypt in the near future.

Ambassador Kim also briefed Minister Al-Mashat on the inaugural Korea-Africa Summit which will be held on June 4th-5th this year in Korea and asked for Egypt’s active contribution for the success of the upcoming historic summit. 

He went on to say that the summit will provide an important momentum for uplifting the comprehensive cooperative partnership of the two friendly countries as well as contributing to the bilateral cooperation between Korea and Egypt in strengthening partnership with African countries.

Ambassador Kim expressed his desire that the summit meeting, which will be held two months into H.E. President El-Sisi’s new presidency, will contribute to the well-being of the peoples of the two countries by boosting joint cooperation in the areas of mutual interest including green transition and digital transformation.

Minister Al-Mashat mentioned that the cooperation between Egypt and Korea has been strengthening to unprecedented level in recent years and appreciated Korean Embassy’s efforts in facilitating various joint projects.

With regard to the inaugural Korea-Africa summit, she applauded Korea’s efforts to increase its role in the international community, and agreed to continue to work together for the success of the summit meeting.

She added that the Ministry of International Cooperation will make continued efforts to strengthen the bilateral relations in the coming years through exploring more areas of collaboration between the two countries.
