The Minister of Transport Kamel Al-Wazir said that Egypt signed with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) the second tranche of development financing for the implementation of the first phase of Metro Line 4 at the value of 41 billion Japanese yen, equivalent to $301 million.

The second tranche will be used to support the implementation of the first phase of Line 4 of the Greater Cairo Metro, with a length of 19 km and 16 stations, to connect the downtown area of Cairo with the Giza Pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM).

The fourth line is the link between the governorates of Cairo and Giza and the 6th of October City.

This comes to meet the growing demand for means of transportation and reduce traffic congestion, and to build on what was achieved through the first tranche of amounting to 32.7 billion Japanese yen, made available during 2012.

During the signing activities, the minister of transport stated that the implementation of the M4 comes within the framework of the directives of the political leadership to complete the implementation of the metro network, which is considered one of the most important means of green transportation that is environmentally friendly, and a means of mass transportation implemented according to the latest international specifications to achieve the highest levels of safety.
