Egypt Exits Junior Volleyball World Cup after Losing to US

Egypt's Volleyball youth team bid farewell to the U-18 World  Championship after losing 3-0 to the US in the last 16 of the tournament.

The United States national team managed to shine during the three games in a row with 25-13, 27-25 and 25-17 to qualify for the quarter-finals of the coveted tournament.

The US qualified for the next round to meet Japan who beat Thailand, earlier Tuesday also in the last 16.

The Egyptian team will meet Thailand in the playoffs to decide ninth to the 16th place in the world championships.

The 2019 FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship was the sixteenth edition of the FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship, contested by the women's national teams under the age of 18 of the members of the Fédération Internationale de Volleyball (FIVB), the sport's global governing body.

The final tournament is currently being held in Egypt from 5 to 14 September 2019. Italy are the defending champions, having won their second title in Argentina.

The finals involved 20 teams, of which 19 came through qualifying competitions, while the host nation qualified automatically. Of the 20 teams, 13 had also appeared in the previous tournament in 2017, while Cameroon and DR Congo made their first appearances at a FIVB Volleyball Girls' U18 World Championship.

The Minister of Youth and Sports, Ashraf Sobhy, has allocated EGP 2m for hosting the tournament. Sobhy stressed the necessity of coordination between the Egyptian Volleyball Federation and the organising committee of the tournament to follow up all preparations for the tournament, to assure Egypt’s ability to host major international sports events.
