Amid the frantic global race to develop the anti-corona vaccines for the novel coronavirus, Egypt took the initiative to address this problem.

Cairo invited the experts of the World Health Organization (COVID-19) concerned with developing the anti-corona vaccines to visit and evaluate the factories of VACSERA Company in September 2020 to determine the company’s readiness to manufacture the vaccines.

The visit report affirmed the proven Egyptian capabilities to manufacture the vaccine that most countries of the world granted the emergency use license of all kinds.

On April 21, Egypt's Prime Minister, Minister of Health, and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Cairo attended the ceremony of signing of the first joint manufacturing and technology transfer agreement between the Chinese company Sinovac and the Egyptian company VACSERA.

This step represents a transformation in the field of vaccine manufacturing in the Middle East and Africa.

The  Egyptian company continues efforts, in partnership with Egyptian and Chinese experts, until last July 5,  when Egypt succeeded in producing the first dose of the Sinovac VACSERA vaccine, which was introduced to be used in Egypt in mid-August after the locally-Egyptian produced vaccine passed many laboratory trails that confirm the product has reached the highest levels of quality.

Egypt has decided to establish a huge manufacturing center and international laboratories to control the production of the vaccine in the 6th of October city to be a  local hub enabling  Egypt to duplicate its production capacity tenfold, and become a regional center for the manufacture and distribution of vaccines.

Over many decades, Egypt possessed human and manufacturing capabilities to produce many serums and vaccines in the factories of the Holding Company for Biological Products and Vaccines (VACSERA),

The state-subsidized two factories belonging to VACSERA Company which are located in   Agouza and the 6th  of October regions, Giza Governorate,  with about 3 quarters of a million dollars.

The production capacity of this plant is up to 331,000 doses per day in a single “shift work” cycle.

The factory located in the “VACSERA” factories complex in the 6th of October city was established and equipped on an area of about 6000 square meters, within the VACSERA factories complex, which has a total area of 60,000 square meters.

The production capacity of the Corona Virus Vaccine Factory in the VACSERA Complex in the 6th of October City reaches 24,000 packages per hour.

The factory is capable of producing 3 million vaccine doses per day (one billion doses annually), to be the largest factory for the production of coronavirus vaccines in the Middle East and Africa.

There are negotiations with various international companies to manufacture vaccines locally in Egypt so that this factory becomes a major center for providing vaccines and exporting them to the African continent and various countries of the world.
