Egypt and China are stepping up cooperation in clean electricity technologies, as Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Mahmoud Essmat, held a series of meetings and technical discussions with leading Chinese energy companies during an official visit to China.

According to a statement released by Egypt’s Ministry of Electricity and Renewable Energy on Saturday, the talks focused on advanced solutions for integrating renewable energy into national power grids, particularly technologies related to energy storage, smart control systems, and artificial intelligence applications.

As part of the visit, Essmat conducted a field tour of Huawei’s energy storage battery testing laboratories, grid-support systems, research and development centers, and technology exhibition halls showcasing clean energy solutions. The tour was attended by Li Shen, CEO for North Africa, and Benjamin Hou, CEO of Huawei Egypt.

The minister reviewed testing facilities dedicated to battery energy storage systems, grid stabilization technologies, and renewable energy integration, in line with Egypt’s ongoing energy transition plan that prioritizes solar and wind power. The visit also covered AI-driven energy management systems designed to reduce waste and minimize power losses.

Huawei’s technical teams presented detailed briefings on the company’s portfolio, including solar plant control systems, data centers, grid communication networks, and next-generation battery storage technologies. The discussions highlighted systems for integration, control, charging, grid connection, quality assurance, and operational efficiency, alongside smart solutions powered by artificial intelligence.

In meetings with company executives and project planning teams, Essmat explored opportunities to expand cooperation in smart energy solutions, renewable energy integration, battery-based storage stations, advanced control systems, and smart meters.

The Egyptian minister described Huawei as a trusted strategic partner, noting ongoing collaboration in areas such as information connectivity across power control centers to improve service quality and modernize Egypt’s unified electricity grid. He emphasized that Egypt’s current energy strategy relies heavily on expanding renewable and clean energy sources, a shift that requires significant investment in grid stabilization systems, particularly large-scale energy storage.

Essmat reaffirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening and upgrading the national electricity grid, enhancing its capacity to absorb additional renewable generation as Egypt accelerates its clean energy transition.
