'Egypt Can by Industry Symposium' Kicks off

The third virtual symposium of the "Egypt Can by Industry" conference kicks off on Sunday, entitled "Localizing the auto industry in Egypt."

The symposium will be attended by Nabila Makram, Minister of Immigration, Nevin Jameh, Minister of Trade and Industry, Mohamed Ahmed Morsi, Minister of Military Production, Hisham Tawfik, Minister of Public Business Sector Hisham Tawfik, and Lieutenant-General Abdel Moneim El-Terras, head of the Arab Organization for Industrialization. The session will be moderated by Ahmed Fayek, presenter of the "Egypt Can" program.

The symposium will be attended by Egyptian scientists and experts abroad, through video conferencing, Dr. Hoda El Maraghy, who led the flexible industrialization revolution in Canada.

Her research on lean manufacturing has revolutionized the way manufacturers around the world adapt, respond to changes in markets, products, and technologies, and enhance the economic sustainability of the modern plant.

Her advice influenced Canadian federal government policy and training strategies to narrow the skills gap between young graduates and workplace needs.

She established Canada's first center for research and development of flexible manufacturing systems at McMaster University. She is currently the founding director of the Intelligent Manufacturing Systems Center (IMS) at the University of Windsor, along with her participation as Dean of Engineering, in establishing the University of Windsor's Automotive Research and Development Center Fiat / Chrysler Canada (ARDC), to increase competitiveness and vitality in the automotive sector.

The scientific and industrial community has chosen her from the top 0.46% in Stanford University's 2020 ranking of the top 2% of the world's most influential and active authors in all disciplines. She ranked the highest with 0.29% in Industrial Engineering.

She holds an honorary doctorate from the Chalmers University of Technology and is a fellow of The Canadian Royal Society (RSC), the Royal Swedish Academy of Engineering Sciences (IVA), the Canadian Academy of Engineering (CAE), the International Academy of Production Engineering (CIRP), the Canadian Society of Mechanical Engineering (CSME), and the American Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
