On Tuesday, Egypt's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Badr Abdelatty, met with Sigrid Kaag, the UN's Chief Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza.
According to a statement recently issued by the Egyptian foreign ministry, Abdelatty emphasized during their meeting the urgent need to enhance the humanitarian response in the Gaza Strip, particularly as winter approaches and the situation deteriorates due to famine and disease exacerbated by the ongoing Israeli conflict that has persisted for 13 months.
The discussions also focused on strategies to address the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and to ensure the efficient distribution of aid.
He pointed out that the volume of daily aid entering Gaza is insufficient to meet the demands of the severe humanitarian emergency currently affecting the region.
In the same connection, Abdelatty criticized Israel's ongoing military oversight of the Palestinian side of the Rafah crossing and its failure to fully open other crossings into Gaza, describing these actions as a deliberate obstruction to aid access and a clear breach of international humanitarian law.
He reaffirmed Egypt's dedication to ongoing discussions with the UN official regarding the execution of her responsibilities under UN Security Council Resolution 2720.
