The Egyptian Minister of Electricity Mahmoud Esmat said that the operation of the electrical interconnection network with Saudi Arabia will begin in the summer of next year.

Esmat stressed that the interconnection project with Saudi Arabia is considered one of the most important projects for the country, ensuring the stability of the network without the need to import more fuel needed for power stations.

It is noteworthy that the capacity of the Saudi-Egyptian interconnection network project reaches 3,000 megawatts.

On the other hand, the Egyptian Natural Gas Holding Company confirmed that the liquefied natural gas shipments that were contracted to provide the fuel needs of power stations included 5 shipments with a quantity of about 155,000 cubic meters of gas.

The Egyptian government had decided to reduce electricity loads by between 2 and 3 hours per day due to the crisis of lack of gas and fuel supplies to power stations.

The past few days witnessed several power outages in neighborhoods north of the city of Riyadh, followed by a blackout in the city of Sharurah last Friday.

Meantime, the Saudi Electricity Regulatory Authority confirmed that if the service provider does not adhere to the standard, compensation will be automatically provided by the service provider, indicating that if the duration of the outage exceeds 6 hours, the consumer is entitled to automatic compensation in the amount of 200 riyals from the service provider, and 50 riyals for every additional hour or part thereof.
