Egyptian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Migration Badr Abdelatty received Italian Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Antonio Tajani in Cairo on Thursday.
The two sides held political consultations, joined by Egypt’s Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy, Dr. Mahmoud Esmat, to discuss bilateral relations and regional and international developments of mutual concern.
Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Ambassador Tamim Khallaf stated that Minister Abdelatty praised the strong and historic ties between Egypt and Italy and expressed appreciation for Italy’s support for Egypt within the European Union.
This includes the European Parliament’s April 1, 2025 vote in favor of disbursing the second tranche of the EU financial assistance package to Egypt worth €4 billion, as well as Italy’s backing for Egypt in international forums and support for Egyptian candidacies in global organizations.
Minister Abdelatty emphasized Egypt’s strong commitment to deepening economic and investment ties with Italy and expanding bilateral trade. He highlighted efforts to reactivate the Egypt–Italy Business Council and underlined Egypt’s ongoing reforms to attract foreign direct investment. These include government incentives and guarantees to protect investors, as well as wide-ranging economic and fiscal modernization.
He also pointed to Egypt’s focus on localizing industries and expressed hope for enhanced cooperation with Italy in areas such as energy, renewable energy, and natural gas—fields in which Egypt possesses significant resources and infrastructure. He commended the pivotal role played by Italian companies in Egypt’s natural gas sector.
The spokesperson added that Minister Abdelatty also praised the growing cooperation with Italy on migration, particularly as Egypt hosts over 9 million foreigners, bearing considerable economic responsibilities as a result.
