Foreign Affairs Ministry, and Tourism and Antiques Ministry succeeded in restoring an ancient Egyptian artifact from Italy. It is a part from an ancient Egyptian coffin decorated with hieroglyphic writings.
Seized by the Italian specialized forces in Cagliari in 2018, the artifact was delivered to the Egypt’s Ambassador to Italy Hisham Badr today at Carabinieri Department for the Protection of Cultural Heritage.
Badr showed his appreciation to the cooperation between Egypt and Italy especially to face the crimes related to the cultural property.
Shaaban Abdul Gawad, the Director of the Retrieved Antiquities Department of Tourism and Antiques Ministry, explained that the Egyptian authorities followed the required legal regulations to restore the smuggled artifact. Moreover, the artifact is on its way to Egypt.
It is worthy to mention that Egypt restored 195 artifacts and more than 21 thousand historical coins from Italy in 2018.
