Egypt: 5.7% increase in the number of students enrolled in higher education in 2022/2023

Today, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics issued the annual bulletin for enrolled students and faculty members in higher education for the academic year 2022/2023.

The most important indicators are the following:

3.7 million students enrolled in higher education for the academic year 2022/2023, compared to 3.5 million students in 2021/2022, an increase of 5.7%.

Public and Al-Azhar universities:  2.5 million students enrolled in public and Al-Azhar universities, representing 66.5% of the total higher education students in 2022/2023, compared to 2.4 million students in 2021/2022, an increase of by 0.2%.

28 universities containing 547 colleges, including 289 technical colleges with 1.8 million students, representing 72.6% of the total students enrolled at public universities and Al-Azhar, and 258 practical colleges with 672.7 thousand students, representing 27.4% of the total students at public universities and Al-Azhar. 112.4thousand faculty members and assistants at public and Al-Azhar universities in 2022/2023.

Private and private universities: 296.9 thousand students enrolled in private universities, representing 8% of the total higher education students in 2022/2023, compared to 228.9 thousand students in 2021/2022, an increase of 29.7%.

 69 universities containing 379 colleges, including 103 theoretical colleges with 66.9 thousand students, representing 22.5% of the total private university students, and 276 practical colleges with 230 thousand students, representing 77.5% of the total private university students. 14.4 thousand faculty members and assistants at private universities in 2022/2023.

Private higher institutes:156higher institutes 660.6 thousand students enrolled in private higher institutes, representing 17.9% of the total higher education students. in 2022/2023, compared to 571.2 thousand students in 2021/2022, an increase of 15.7%. 9.4 thousand faculty members in private higher institutes in 2022/2023.

Academies: 4Academies37.1 thousand students enrolled in academies, representing 1% of the total higher education students in 2022/2023, compared to 38.2 thousand students in 2021/2022, a decrease of 2.6%. 2.1 thousand faculty members in academies in 2022/2023.

Above-intermediate technical institutes (government/private): 199.1thousand students enrolled in government and private upper-medium technical institutes, representing 5.4% of the total higher education students in 2022/2023, compared to 181.4 thousand students in 2021/2022, an increase by9.8%. 2.4 thousand faculty members in government and private upper-medium technical institutes in 2022/2023.

Various private institutes: 45.3 thousand students enrolled in various private institutes, representing 1.2% of the total higher education students in 2022/2023, compared to 25.8 thousand students in 2021/2022, an increase of 75.6%. 829 faculty members in various private institutes in 2022/2023.
