Amr El-Ganayny, interim head of the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) , revealed today the real reason Mohamed Salah's votes in this year FIFA Best Player awards weren't considered and as a result, he didn't make it to the final three of this year's award.

El-Ganayny revealed during a press conference that intended to announce the new manager for the Egyptian national team" "When I learned that Egypt's voice were not counted, I moved directly and contacted FIFA officials to find out the reason. "The votes were finalized of the 15th of August, while the FIFA assigned me as the head of the interim 5 member board on the 20th."

"We officially started out jobs on the 24th in the EFA, and the votes were made under the eyes of Ahmed El-Mohammady, and Shawki Gharib, the head of the Egyptian Olympic team." he added.

"We sent the voting results on the 19th, and what happened is that the signature of Tharwat Sweillam, who was supposed to be the acting director, was to appear on the required paper work, but on the contrary, some else signed thus the FIFA couldn't validate the documents".

El-Ganayny cited that this was an administrative error on the federation's side and he has contacted Salah after the error and he fully predicted what happened.

Salah caused a social media storm on Tuesday when he removed the word "Egypt" from his Twitter bio in apparent anger after finding out that the country had not voted for him in FIFA's best player award.

The 27-year-old came fourth in the best player prize, which was won by Barcelona's Argentinean legend Lionel Messi, followed by Dutch Virgil Van Dijk and Cristiano Ronaldo.
