EFA Postpones Egyptian League till End of U-23 AFCON

The Egyptian Football Association (EFA) decided on Tuesday to postpone the Egyptian Premier League encounters till the end of the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations.

The U-23 Afcon is set to be held in Egypt from November 8 to November 22.The Pharaohs were drawn in Group A at the U-23 Africa Cup of Nations, alongside Mali, Ghana, and Cameroon, while holders Nigeria were pooled in Group B, alongside Ivory Coast, Zambia, and South Africa.

The EFA issued a statement responding to the recent crises, which sparkled after the postponement of the Egyptian derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek.

" Within the framework of hosting the upcoming U-23 AFCON, and the letter sent to the EFA, from the Egyptian Ministry of Youth and Sports, the EFA decided to delay the outstanding confrontations of week 5 and week 6 till the end of the tournament," the statement read.

"The tournament is set to be resumed after the end of the tournament with the seam fixture table declared by EFA in the beginning of the season," it added.

"Al Ahly-Zamalek encounter, which delayed due to security reason, is set to be held at the end of Egyptian Premier League first leg," the statement concluded.

On October 16, EFA decided to postpone the awaited derby between Al Ahly and Zamalek which was scheduled to take place on Saturday, October 19 due to security concerns. The Association announced that they had received an official notice from security authorities to postpone the match.
