The head of Egypt’s Drug Authority (EDA) Ali El-Ghamrawy held talks with prominent businessman and Deputy Speaker of Parliament Mohamed Abou El-Enein to explore investment opportunities in Egypt’s pharmaceutical sector, underscoring the government’s push to strengthen local drug manufacturing and attract private capital.

The meeting comes as part of the EDA’s broader efforts to deepen engagement with national business leaders and key figures in industry and investment. Discussions focused on the current state of Egypt’s pharmaceutical market, which has seen notable progress in recent years driven by regulatory reforms, support for domestic production, and the adoption of more flexible policies aimed at balancing investor interests with market needs.

Both sides highlighted the promising investment potential within the sector, particularly in the localization of pharmaceutical manufacturing, technology transfer, and the expansion of production for strategic medicines. These areas are viewed as critical to enhancing Egypt’s ability to meet domestic demand while opening wider prospects for exports to regional and international markets.

The talks also reviewed the accelerating growth rates of Egypt’s drug market and the country’s increasingly prominent position across Africa. Egypt is now regarded as one of the continent’s largest and most important pharmaceutical markets, as well as a central hub for manufacturing and distribution, a role that positions it to contribute more effectively to Africa’s pharmaceutical security.

During the meeting, El-Ghamrawy reaffirmed the EDA’s commitment to fostering an attractive and stable investment climate based on transparency and equal opportunity. He emphasized that encouraging serious, long-term investments is essential to achieving sustainable development and enhancing the regional and global competitiveness of Egypt’s pharmaceutical industry.

On his part, Abou El-Enein expressed strong appreciation for the EDA’s role in modernizing Egypt’s pharmaceutical system. He praised the authority’s ongoing efforts to upgrade the regulatory framework, strengthen quality and governance standards, and ensure the availability of safe and effective medicines for Egyptian citizens.

The meeting aligns with the EDA’s strategic vision of building stronger partnerships with stakeholders across the public and private sectors. By supporting market growth and encouraging investment, the authority aims to cement Egypt’s status as a regional center for pharmaceutical manufacturing and trade in Africa.
