Earthquake Strikes Turkey, Lebanon, Egypt

An earthquake of magnitude 6.1 was just reported, Saturday, 63 km southwest of Alanya, Turkey, striking Lebanon and Egypt as well.

Citizens in Lebanon reported the an earthquake hit the country, as the inhabitants of the coastal regions felt a little tremor.

The German Research Centre for Geosciences (GFZ) reported that an earthquake hit the marine area southeast of Antalya and northwestern Cyprus, with a magnitude 6.1 at 63 km depth.

Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake was probably felt by many people in the area of the epicenter. It should not have caused significant damage, other than objects falling from shelves, broken windows, etc.

In Gazipaşa (pop. 18,400) located 55 km from the epicenter, Mahmutlar (pop. 24,200) 61 km away, Alanya (pop. 113,000) 63 km away, Türkler (pop. 7,200) 67 km away, Payallar (pop. 5,400) 67 km away, Avsallar (pop. 12,800) 70 km away, Anamur (pop. 57,100) 93 km away, Manavgat (pop. 99,300) 93 km away, and Antalya (pop. 758,200) 142 km away, the quake should have been felt as light shaking.

On the other hand, Dr. Ahmed Badawy, head of the National Seismic Network, revealed the details of the quake that affected the residents of Cairo.
