The Russian Ambassador to Cairo, Georgy Borisenko awarded "Dostoevsky" medal to Dr. Anwar Ibrahim, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Culture and former head of the foreign cultural relations sector.
The honoring ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Russian Embassy in Cairo, in the presence of a delegation from the Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities headed by Sherif Gad and Secretary-General Dr. Fathi Toghan, Dr. Magdy Zaabal, Dr. Walid Khalil and Dr. Mahmoud Shaheen.
On his part, the Russian Ambassador congratulated Dr. Ibrahim on this high-level Russian honor, appreciating his efforts and his long history in translating classic and contemporary Russian literature into Arabic and spreading Russian culture.
Moreover, he stressed that the Arab reader becomes lucky when he reads Russian literature through creative translators such as Dr. Anwar Ibrahim.
Furthermore, Dr. Ibrahim expressed his great happiness on this historic day, which is the culmination of many years of work, research, and strive to provide the best, considering this honor as a medal on his chest.
In addition, Gad expressed his happiness at honoring Dr.Ibrahim, who is considered a professor for generations and credited to a large group of creative translators, as he does not skimp on helping and advising translators at the beginning of their lives.
Dr. Tughan confirmed that Dr. Anwar is the first Arab to receive this medal, which was allocated by the Russian Writers' Union to be awarded to creators in the field of translation, on the 200th birth anniversary of Fyodor Dostoevsky, who is one of the most important Russian writers in the world.
