CAIRO, Jan.27 (SEE)- Novak Djokovic earned himself a historic record seventh men's title at the Australian Open and third successive Grand Slam with a tennis masterclass after utterly destroying his great rival Rafael Nadal in the final.

The world No 1 obliterated Nadal in a surprisingly lopsided final, winning 6-3 6-2 6-3, finishing with 34 winners and only nine unforced errors on his way to a famous victory in two hours and four minutes.

The win saw Djokovic become the first man to win the Australian Open main prize seven times going past Roger Federer and Roy Emerson with six each.

The showdown between world No 1 Djokovic and world number 2 Nadal was their 53rd meeting on tour and a repeat of their incredible 2012 final which lasted seven minutes short of six hours, the longest Grand Slam title match in history.

As the reigning Wimbledon and US Open champion, Djokovic also became just the third person in history to win three majors in a row three times in their career.

He needed a moment to compose himself when trying to put into words just what this victory meant to him after coming back from injury, as he stated post winning the luxurious award “Sorry, I’m just trying to contemplate on the journey in the past 12 months,” Djokovic said.

“I had the surgery exactly 12 months ago and being able to stand in front of you today and managing to win this title and three of the four slams is truly amazing. I’m speechless.”

Djokovic paid tribute to his family and thanked his team for always having his back. “I would like to thank my team for supporting me obviously,” he said. “It is an inpidual sport but you guys are always behind me. “You guys are tolerating me on my bad days.
