Deputy FM, Venezuela Ambassador Hold Talks in Cairo

Deputy Foreign Minister for Latin American Affairs Ashraf Mounir received on Wednesday, Wilmer Omar Barrientos, Venezuelan Ambassador to Egypt. 

During the meeting, they discussed the arrangements for holding summit meetings between the Egyptian and Venezuelan delegations on the sidelines of the 76th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

At the outset of the meeting, Barrientos reviewed Venezuela's intention to hold regional and legislative elections in November 2021, after the electoral authority allowed a coalition of major opposition political parties to field candidates in the upcoming election.

The ambassador also discussed the agreement between the Venezuelan government and the opposition to end the political and economic crisis in the country. This came after representatives of both sides began talks in Mexico City, where they agreed to meet on August, 30 to discuss an agenda of 7 points.

It is worth mentioning that, Egypt and Venezuela enjoy historic ties that began more than sixty years ago. Moreover, Egypt's principle of non-interference in the affairs of others helped a lot to strengthen and boost these relations.
