The Brazilian Civil Defense Authority announced that the death toll from floods caused by torrential rains in the state of Rio Grande do Sul has risen to 143 people.
On Monday, the American Al-Hurra channel quoted the authority as saying, “125 people are still missing,” noting that the rains caused the displacement of more than 537,000 people from the state.
Last Friday, the Brazilian government announced its intention to provide significant support for rescue and reconstruction efforts in the state of Rio Grande do Sul affected by the floods.
