The United Nations said today, Wednesday, that the official death toll from recent heavy rains in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo has reached 443.
The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) added that hundreds of people were injured and many are missing, after rains in early May caused fatal floods and landslides.
"More than 3,000 buildings, including schools, have been damaged, preventing more than 9,000 children from going to school," (OCHA) said in a statement.
The Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs notes that at least 17,000 people have received assistance since May 10, including food, health care, shelter and psychosocial support.
