The Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities held a meeting with Alexei Vasiliev, a renowned Russian orientalist, at seven in the vening on Wednesday, November 15th, at the Russian Cultural Center in Cairo.
The purpose of the meeting was to discuss Egyptian-Russian relations and their prospects for development in the context of current global events.
Alexei Vasiliev has worked as a special envoy for the Russian President in Africa and the Middle East for 30 years. He is a well-known historian and orientalist who speaks fluent Arabic and has written hundreds of articles on Russian-Arab relations. He has also authored several successful books, including "The History of Arabic and Saudi Arabia" and "Egypt and the Egyptians."
Sherif Gad, the head of the Egyptian Association of Graduates of Russian and Soviet Universities, emphasized that Vasiliev's visit to Egypt is an important cultural event that should be capitalized on. Gad added that Professor Vasiliev has a deep love for Egypt and often visits the country.
Gad expressed his surprise when he met Vasiliev in Moscow and the latter confided that he had not visited Egypt in five years, which was an unusual occurrence for him.
