Davos: Sisi, Trump Discuss Strategic Partnership, Gaza Peace Plan & Nile Water Security

​President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met, on Wednesday, with U.S. President Donald Trump on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos. 

The meeting was attended by Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Emigration and Egyptian Expatriates, and Major General Hassan Rashad, Head of the General Intelligence Service.

From the American side, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Steve Witkoff, U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, were in attendance.

​Official Presidential Spokesperson stated that the discussions focused on bilateral relations.

In this regard, President Sisi reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to elevating these ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, expressing Egypt’s interest in bolstering economic and trade cooperation by convening the second edition of the Egyptian-American Economic Forum during 2026.

For his part, Trump expressed his deep appreciation for the longstanding partnership across political, military, and economic fields, praising President Sisi’s role in achieving development and political stability in Egypt, as well as supporting regional peace.

The meeting also addressed regional issues of mutual concern. President Sisi welcomed President Trump's initiative to establish the "Board of Peace" and its role in resolving conflicts, expressing his full support for the initiative.

Furthermore, Sisi commended Trump’s pivotal role in halting the war in the Gaza Strip and launching the implementation of the second phase of the agreement.

He noted the announcement of the Palestinian National Committee for Gaza Management, emphasizing Egypt's readiness to exert all necessary efforts to ensure the agreement's full implementation. 

The President also stressed the urgency of early recovery efforts to pave the way for reconstruction, while highlighting the need for increased humanitarian aid given the dire conditions faced by the Palestinian people.

​Moreover, the talks covered joint efforts to end the war in Sudan within the framework of the "Quartet." President El-Sisi welcomed U.S. efforts in this regard, stressing the importance of reaching an urgent humanitarian truce and intensifying international efforts to alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people.

​Regarding the Nile water issue, President Sisi valued President Trump’s interest in the matter, describing it as an existential and central issue for Egypt. 

He emphasized that the U.S. President’s sponsorship of efforts to settle this prolonged crisis would open new horizons for a breakthrough. The President reaffirmed Egypt's commitment to establishing cooperation mechanisms with Nile Basin countries to achieve mutual interests according to international law, noting that the volume of water and rainfall in the basin is sufficient for all countries if managed effectively.

​Finally, the meeting addressed developments in Lebanon. In this regard, President El-Sisi underscored the importance of the American role in stopping violations of Lebanese sovereignty, enabling state institutions to fulfill their duties and extend authority over the entire Lebanese territory.
