Egypt’s Dar Al-Ifta has officially announced that Thursday, February 19, 2026, will mark the first day of the holy month of Ramadan for the year 1447 AH.
In a statement issued on Tuesday evening, Dar Al-Ifta said it had conducted the legal and astronomical sighting of the Ramadan crescent moon after sunset on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, corresponding to the 29th of Shaaban 1447 AH. The sighting was carried out through its authorized religious and scientific committees deployed across the country.
According to the statement, the crescent moon of Ramadan was not sighted through verified and legally valid visual observation. As a result, Dar Al-Ifta confirmed that Wednesday, February 18, 2026, will complete the month of Shaaban.
Based on this ruling, Thursday, February 19, 2026, has been declared the first day of Ramadan in Egypt.
On the occasion, Dar Al-Ifta extended its congratulations to Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, wishing him continued health and well-being. The authority also congratulated the Egyptian people, as well as Arab and Muslim leaders and communities worldwide.
