Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides has reaffirmed Egypt’s pivotal role as a pillar of stability in the region, urging the international community to support Cairo more.
Speaking at a press conference in Cairo alongside Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Christodoulides lauded the depth of relations between Cyprus and Egypt and their growing cooperation with Greece.
“I want to thank President El-Sisi for hosting this successful summit and for his warm hospitality,” Christodoulides stated. He highlighted the strong ties between Egypt and Cyprus, reinforced by trilateral collaboration with Greece in various fields.
During the summit, the three nations signed several Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) covering areas such as health, education, water resource management, and women’s empowerment, reflecting their shared commitment to advancing mutual interests.
Christodoulides addressed the broader challenges facing the Eastern Mediterranean, emphasizing the need for collective efforts to achieve stability.
"The region is going through difficult times that contradict our shared vision of peace and security in the Eastern Mediterranean," he said. He proposed that the partnership between Egypt, Cyprus, and Greece could serve as a model for regional cooperation, based on mutual respect and adherence to international law.
The Cypriot president also stressed respecting national sovereignty, as the summit’s joint declaration highlighted. "Our objective is to end hostilities, reduce tensions, and resolve disputes under the principles of the UN Charter," he noted. He further called attention to Egypt’s critical role as a stabilizing force in the region, urging the global community to recognize this role and provide the necessary support.
