The Consumer Protection Authority (CPA) launched large and expanded campaigns in the in Cairo to maintain discipline in the markets and prevent any harmful, uncontrolled practices.
The campaigns resulted in the issuance of 39 reports, and the violations varied between failing to announce prices, selling for more than the declared price of cigarettes and sugar, withholding goods from circulation, trading food commodities in markets of unknown origin or expired items.
These campaigns also resulted in the issuance of 128 reports and the seizure of 36.1 tons of sugar in Alexandria, 2.1 tons of sugar in Qena, and 2 tons in Cairo.
The seizures included 40.2 tons of sugar withheld from circulation, 346 packs of tobacco and cigarette products sold for more than the official price, 1.8 tons of processed meat, which is not suitable for human consumption, 2.1 tons of rice of unknown source, and 1.5 tons of ffood products of unidentified source.
