Australia recorded on Monday, its first death from the new COVID-19 mutant 'Omicron', in New South Wales.
The fatal case was identified as a man in his 80s, who was staying in an elderly care facility in western Sydney, where he contracted the infection.
It is worth mentioning that, the new Omicron version, which was discovered initially in South Africa, has heightened global anxieties because it is thought to be more deadly than the delta variant.
The World Health Organization (WHO) designated it as a ‘variant of concern’ on Friday.
