The Brazilian Ministry of Agriculture said that Iran, Jordan, and Thailand have temporarily stopped importing beef from the country, while authorities are investigating a case of mad cow disease from Para state, according to a statement sent to Reuters.
The Brazilian ministry also confirmed that Russia had stopped imports from Para state, after discovering a case of mad cow disease there.
The ministry said that Russia also imposed an embargo on beef exported from Para".
In addition, Brazil halted beef exports to China to fulfill the terms of a trade agreement.
The ministry stated that there is only one meat-packing plant in Para that is authorized to sell beef products to Russia.
Brazil is investigating a case of bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) in a 9-year-old male animal from Para state. The discovery of the case, which was announced on February 20, led to a self-ban on sales of Brazilian beef to China.
