Coronavirus has taken the lives of a thousand bank employees in India amid the world's fastest-growing outbreak, according to authorities.
General Secretary of the India Bank Officers’ Association S. Nagarajan told Bloomberg: "We have already lost more than 1,000 colleagues." Bank employees are frontline workers and the virus is affecting them.
India reported 24 million cases of coronavirus and more than 266,200 deaths amid one of the world's worst outbreak. Most of the services are are experiencing a lockdown, yet, the banking sector is providing its essential service with as much as 50% of their workforce in bank branches to avoid any disruption in banking services.
The General Secretary of the All India Bank Employees Association told Money Control that 'Not all banks are ready to publish details and compensation policies to the families of those who have died from this virus'.
