The Swiss organization of "Press Emblem Campaign" reported today, Wednesday, that at least 735 journalists have died from "Covid-19", within 11 months of the outbreak of the pandemic.

The non-profit organization said in a statement: “Of the 735 journalists who have died from“ Covid-19 ”since March 1, 2020, most of them - 375 - died in Latin America.

The organization, based in Geneva and founded in June 2004 by a group of journalists from several countries, says however that it is not possible to differentiate between journalists who became infected at work and those who were infected in their private lives.

"Because of their profession, journalists who go into the field to inform are indeed particularly exposed to the virus. Some of them, especially freelancers and photographers, cannot only work at home," said PEC Secretary-General Blaise Lempen in a statement.

This is followed by Asia with 148 deaths, then Europe with 137 deaths, so Northern America (39) and Africa (36)  respectively.

It was indicated that the organization has data for 63 countries. And recently, the number of victims of the virus has increased. So, in the first month of the current year, 133 journalists died.

Of these deaths, there is the largest number of cases from "Covid-19", in Brazil and Mexico. Almost half of the deceased are people over the age of 60.

During the 11 months of the pandemic, the largest number of journalists' deaths due to "Covid-19" were recorded in Peru (95), among European countries, and the highest deaths are in Italy (44).

In Russia, 12 media employees have died due to the virus since March of last year, in the United States 38, in the United Kingdom 22, and in Ukraine 14 journalists.

On the other hand, the head of the Russian Federation of Journalists, Vladimir Solovyov, announced that he would work to cover any new protests in the country, following calls for unauthorized protests across Russia on social media, last Sunday.

Of course, Solovyov said in a statement to "Sputnik". The union will monitor the situation (unauthorized protests). All of our regional branches will do this. "
