Under the theme "A Marvelous Nativity Story," the Coptic Museum is organizing a temporary archaeological exhibition for a month, featuring a unique collection of the museum's artifacts that narrate the wonders of Coptic art, in celebration of the Glorious Christmas.
Jihan Atef, the General Director of the Coptic Museum, explained that the exhibition includes 13 different archaeological pieces. Among them are a collection of manuscripts, icons, metals, textiles, and woodworks that shed light on rare and diverse scenes from the Glorious Nativity event.
This includes an icon representing the Annunciation of the Angel Gabriel to the Virgin Mary about the birth of Jesus Christ, the Four Annunciation manuscript in Arabic, and a bronze censer depicting various events from the life of Jesus Christ, including the Annunciation and the Nativity. Additionally, the exhibition features the Synaxarion manuscript in Arabic, which details fasting days and feasts, and includes prayers read in the church, with a special mention of the 29th of Kiahk, commemorating the birth of Jesus Christ.
The exhibit also showcases a distinctive and rare icon depicting various scenes from the life of Saint Nicholas, known as Santa Claus, a manuscript containing praises for the Virgin Mary, the Four Annunciation manuscript in Arabic, and a textile piece portraying an angel carrying a wreath.
Alongside the exhibition, the museum offers a variety of activities for children, hosted by the Animation Team for Kids and the Santa Claus Team. Additionally, there are art workshops for making Christmas tree gift shapes.
