A delegation of the General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) led by Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, Social and Family Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhiet, held a coordination meeting with a delegation of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) at the latter’s headquarter in Rabat.
The meeting started with the remarks of the Director General of ICESCO, Dr Salim Mohamed Al-Malik in which he welcomed the General Secretariat’s delegation and extoled the fruitful cooperation that has characterized the working relations between the two organizations and their ambition to realize the objectives of joint Islamic action in relevant fields.
The Director General went further to highlight the importance of coordinated efforts to ensure optimal implementation of programs and projects that would serve sustainable development goals in the Member States and bolster solidarity among them.
In his intervention, Ambassador Bakhiet pointed out the importance of removing all obstacles to cooperation with a view to creating a positive environment that will enable the realization of the ambitions and objectives of both organizations within their areas of competence in accordance with resolutions of the Islamic Summit, the Council of Foreign Ministers and sectorial meetings.
Following that, the General Secretariat and ICESCO delegations held an intensive working session where they discussed areas of cooperation and explored available opportunities to implement various targeted programs.
The coordination meeting held on 16 and 17 July is a continuation of the first coordination meeting held in Jeddah in October 2022 during which a new Memorandum of Understanding was signed to give momentum to joint action between the two sides.
