Israeli Chief of Staff Eyal Zamir expressed concern over the severe shortage of soldiers, warning that the government's political goals regarding the Gaza Strip cannot be achieved solely with current military means, according to Yedioth Ahronoth.
During closed meetings with the political leadership, Zamir confirmed that the mobilization rate in combat units was low.
Yedioth Ahronoth reported on Monday that Zamir informed Netanyahu that the troop shortage could limit the army's ability to fulfill its political leadership's ambitions in Gaza, amid the ongoing fighting.
The Israeli newspaper said that Zamir, who recently took over as commander of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF), informed Netanyahu and his cabinet that military strategies alone cannot achieve all objectives in Gaza, especially in the absence of a complementary diplomatic track.
