COMESA Delegation in Egypt to Discuss Cooperation

On Monday, Mahmoud Mumtaz, Head of Egypt's Competition Protection and Monopolistic Practices Prevention Authority received a high-level delegation from COMESA. The delegation was headed Willard Mwemba, Commissioner Head of the COMESA Competition Commission.

The meeting was held at the Competition Protection and Monopolistic Practices Prevention Authority's headquarters in the Smart Village.

The visit comes within the framework of keenness on continuous cooperation with competition authorities in African countries, and various African organizations and blocs, led by COMESA. It also aims to discuss working jointly to confront any monopolistic practices at the level of member states, and to provide all means of technical and human support to advance joint efforts in the field of competition protection.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to competition protection policies in COMESA member states were discussed. Studies carried out by the Egyptian Competition Authority regarding mergers and acquisitions that take place in the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa countries were also discussed.

The meeting also tackled ways to develop and enhance cooperation between the Authority and the COMESA Competition Commission.
