Antonio  Guterres, General Secretary of the United Nations (UN), announced that the African countries have received less than 2%  of doses of the Corona vaccines in the world so far.

He pointed out that termination of the pandemic and attaining targets of sustainable development need introducing vaccines to all people across the world in a just manner.

Guterres added over a letter handed on of the Day of Africa this year sheds the light on employing arts and heritage as means to support the building of Africa.

He indicated that that Africa’s cultural and natural heritage has an important role in achieving sustainable development, slashing poverty, building peace, and keeping it.

He pointed out that the African heritage could offer a solid foundation to comprehensive progress for all in the time the continent strives to face challenges related to a pandemic of the Coronavirus (known also as COVID-19).

He explained that the pandemic caused a world slump that uncovered defections and deep soft points that threaten to wipe out gains of development that did have been attained in Africa or other areas but after strenuous efforts.

He affirmed that the pandemic kindled the factors of conflicts that led to worsening features of inequality and uncovered fragility of governance systems in many countries, especially in the field of offering basic services like health care, education, electricity, freshwater, and sewage.

General-Secretary of the UN warns that the pandemic also causes worsening of the crisis of climate change which affects the underdeveloped countries across the planet.

On the occasion of Africa’s day, Guterres renews his call for the developed countries to make solidarity with Africa.

However, the UN warns many times of the negative consequences of the unjust distribution of vaccines between the rich and poor countries in the world.

The developed group is reluctant to offer vaccines to underdeveloped countries.
