China’s Foreign Ministry announced on Wednesday that it is imposing sanctions on 12 American companies and 10 senior executives for their involvement in selling weapons to Taiwan.

This move comes as a response to U.S. sanctions on Chinese firms over their cooperation with Russia.

In an official statement posted on its website, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs criticized the US for disregarding China’s "objective and fair stance on the Ukraine crisis" and for its constructive role in the situation.

The statement accused the US of imposing "illegal unilateral sanctions" on several Chinese companies based on alleged ties to Russia, engaging in "unilateral harassment and economic coercion," and severely violating the legitimate rights and interests of Chinese businesses, institutions, and individuals.

The ministry also highlighted that the United States continues to sell arms to Taiwan, which it described as a serious violation of the "One China" principle and the three Sino-US joint communiqués.

These actions, according to China, constitute blatant interference in China's internal affairs and cause significant harm to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the People's Republic of China.

In retaliation, China has decided to implement countermeasures against 12 U.S. defense companies and 10 senior executives. The sanctions are set to take effect on May 22.
