China expressed serious concern over the joint statement issued by the United States (US), Japan, and South Korea on the issue of Taiwan and the South China Sea.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Hua Chunying, said in a press conference that China strongly opposes these countries from forming exclusive blocs in the name of cooperation, interfering in China's internal affairs, smearing China, and inciting confrontation and hostility.

Mao added, "the situation in the South China Sea is stable. China always strongly defends its territorial sovereignty, rights, and maritime interests, and is committed to resolving disputes with relevant countries through dialogue and consultation."

She pointed out that many countries outside the region have flexed their muscles in the South China Sea and aroused confrontation, which does not lead to peace and stability in the region.
