On Thursday, Chile’s President Gabriel Boric said he planned to open an embassy in Palestine before the term of his office ends.

“We will raise the level of our official representation in Palestine,” Boric said, at ceremony for Chile’s Palestinian community.

The president expressed his sadness that Palestine is not on political world maps.

Chile in 1998 opened a representative office to the Palestinian Authority in Ramallah, meanwhile, Palestine has its embassy in Santiago.

In 2011, Chile recognized Palestine as a state and supported its entrance to UNESCO.

Both Chileans and Palestinians have had strong ties, as the number of Palestinians in Chile is estimated to be more than 300,000 strong, and that is considered the largest Palestinian population outside of the Middle East.

Boric is known as He is a supporter of the Palestinian cause; he visited the West Bank on October 7, 2021, and met Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas.
