Abdul Ghaffar Al-Salamouni, Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Chamber of Grain Industry (CGI) in the Egyptian Federation of Industries, announced the high supply rates in the current wheat season.

The supply rate exceeded 565 thousand tons during the first two weeks of the season, an increase of more than 100% over the quantities supplied last year in the same period, which were 208 thousand tons, according to a room statement Tuesday.

Al-Salamouni added that the local wheat supply season this year bodes well after the directives of the political leadership to support Egyptian farmers and increase the price of local wheat supply to 1,500 pounds for a 150-kilogram Ardib, equivalent to the same international price.

He added that the expansion of establishing new silos to increase storage capacity has contributed to reducing wheat waste and will also contribute to strengthening strategic stocks, especially during the supply of local wheat in the current season.

Al-Salamouni expected the continuation of the increase in the rates of local wheat supply for the benefit of the General Authority for Supply Commodities at the Ministry of Supply and Internal Trade this year, at rates ranging between 4 and 5 million tons of wheat, especially after the Cabinet decided to increase the price of an ardeb of wheat to 1,500 pounds, 2014.
