The Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said that it paid foreign debt dues amounting to approximately $8.168 billion during Q1 of FY2023/24, compared to $7.645 billion at the end of the last quarter of the previous fiscal year.

According to a report issued by the Central Bank, these dues are divided into $2.358 billion in loan interest, and $5.809 billion in debt installments.

External debt service burdens rose to reach about $8.2 billion during the July/September period of the FY2023/24 compared to $4.8 billion year-on-year. This rise comes as a result of the increase in debt installments by about $2.6 billion to record $5.8 billion. The loan interest also increased by about $0.8 billion to $2.4 billion.
