CAPMAS: Egypt's Unemployment Rate Drop to 6.4%

The Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics announced, Saturday, the results of the labor force survey for the fourth quarter. 

The results showed a decrease in the unemployment rate to 6.4% of the total labor force, a decrease of 0.3% from the previous quarter.

The estimated size of the labor force was 33.124 million individuals compared to 32.218 million individuals during the previous quarter, an increase of 2.8%. The labor force in urban areas reached 14.502 million individuals, while in rural areas reached 18.622 million individuals. 

At the gender level, the size of the labor force reached 26.555 million individuals for males, and 6.569 million individuals for females. This is due to the increase in the number of employed persons by 935,000 during the current quarter compared to the previous quarter, and the decrease in the number of unemployed persons by 29,000, which led to an increase in the labor force by 906,000 individuals.

The number of unemployed persons recorded 2.130 million, representing 6.4% of the total labor force, distributed between 1.042 million males and 1.088 million females, compared to 2.159 million unemployed persons in the previous quarter, a decrease of 29,000 persons by 1.3%.
